Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping said an important political task for the whole Communist Party of China (CPC) at present and "in a future period" is to study and implement the gist of the Fourth Plenary Session of the 17th CPC Central Committee that concluded last week.
Xi, also a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau, said during his inspection tour to the northeastern Heilongjiang Province from Monday to Thursday that CPC members should earnestly study the documents of the session to fully understand its gist.
During his visit to the Daqing Oilfield, China's major oil production base, Xi praised the workers for the successes they had made in inheriting the hard-working qualities of "iron man" Wang Jinxi and improving the work of grassroots-level Party organizations.
Wang drilled the first well in the Daqing Oilfield six decades ago. He was also the first national role-model in China's industrial sector. In January 2009, he was selected as one of China's 10 most influential figures in the past 100 years by China Comment, one of the country's leading magazines.
Xi, when visiting a village in Zhaodong City, said the village's CPC members should work hard to tackle "prominent problems" affecting or holding back the building of a new socialist countryside.
He also urged the Party School of Heilongjiang Provincial Committee of the CPC to take the lead in building a study-oriented Party organization and team of leaders.
Enterprises should speed up the elimination of backward production facilities and forcefully advance innovations to develop the province's pillar industries, such as energy and equipment manufacturing, Xi said when visiting the Harbin Aircraft Industry Group and other companies.
He also visited rice fields and food markets to check the growing of crops and the supply of daily necessities.
