Most survivors of the May 12 earthquake in southwest China's Sichuan Province highly praised the central and local governments and volunteers for their performance in the reconstruction work, a private survey showed on Thursday.

Conducted by Horizon Research Consultancy Group, the survey of 784 people found that quake-affected residents were 98.8 percent satisfied with the central government and 96.8 percent with volunteers.

Most of those polled believed the government played a major role in such fields as housing and infrastructure construction. In addition, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) could offer psychological intervention for traumatized survivors and skill training programs for unemployed survivors, according to the results released on Thursday in Beijing.

The residents said their housing situation had improved much due to the reconstruction work of the past few months, it said.

The survey, conducted in face-to-face interviews from August 2 to 6 in six rural and urban areas of the province, polled 662 adults and 122 children aged 10 to 17.

As of Thursday, the quake death toll had reached 69,227 with 17,923 still missing, according to government figures.
