"The country has taken a series of measures this year and reduced the numbers of accidents and casualties. However, several serious accidents happened recently and caused very negative social impacts," Zhang made his remarks when attending a national tele-conference on production safety work held by the State Council (Cabinet) in Beijing Wednesday.

He urged that enterprises should abide by laws and regulations to watch over production safety in each part of the work process.

"Relevant governmental authorities and enterprises should be responsible for the work safety and the accountability system should be carried out in an earnest manner," Zhang added.

He also called for greater efforts to enhance work safety supervision and to establish a production safety honesty record system.

Zhang stressed that local governments should pay attention to the safety work during the coming National Day holiday.
