Wei Liucheng was elected chairman of the standing committee of
the Hainan Provincial People's Congress on Friday.
Wei, born in August 1946, was elected to the post at the fifth
session of the 3rd Hainan Provincial People's Congress.
A native of Biyang County, central China's Henan Province, Wei
became vice-secretary of the Hainan provincial committee of the
Communist Party of China (CPC), vice-governor and acting governor
of Hainan in October 2003 after having worked in the oil business
for more than 30 years.
He was elected governor of Hainan in February 2004, but resigned
from the post in January this year.
The CPC Central Committee appointed him secretary of the Hainan
provincial committee of the CPC in December last year.
He is an alternate member of the 16th Central Committee of the
CPC.
