Trains on Metro Lines 1 and 4 that stop at Shanghai Stadium, the venue for Olympic football matches, are to be fitted with surveillance cameras as police continue to tighten security.
The installation of cameras on 36 trains will be completed before August 5, about the same time as the city's public buses are required to finish the installation of similar devices.
Earlier this week, the local authority announced installing surveillance systems on 1,600-plus public buses running on 68 routes involving Olympic-related venues in Shanghai.
Shanghai Stadium will host 12 football matches from August 8.
Metro management said that each carriage on the Metro trains involved will have three cameras relaying images to a screen in the driver's cabin.
Images recorded by the cameras can be kept on the system for seven days.
As a trial, management installed surveillance equipment on two trains on Line 1 earlier this year.
As required by the national authority, all Metro trains in service will need to carry surveillance equipment soon.
