Taiyuan develops 'green economy'

Taiyuan, as the capital city of Shanxi Province, is also one of the main centers of energy supply in China. In recent years, in order to change the traditional operating modes of industries to achieve lower costs and less pollution, the city has been dedicated to developing green economy.

According to Taiyuan Mayor Zhang Bingsheng, the key to refreshing the city's image lies in the transformation of the local economy to the one integrating hi-tech industries, advanced manufacturing industry and service industry.

Chen Xianfeng, the first individual to own a coal mine in Taiyuan, has gradually closed down his mine and helped villagers to build methane tanks. Chen is also doing research on the nearby Wujin Mountain scenic spot for developing subsidiary industries in the area.
