A county government website in southwest China's Yunnan Province was hacked Tuesday evening after the accidental death of a detained man on Feb. 12, local authorities said.
The Jinning government website www.jinning.gov.cn was falsified to catchphrase of "getting some soy sauce," "doing push-ups" and "hide and seek" at 10 p.m., a Kunming municipal public security official said.
The web server of the website was cut off by police later.
The police is investigating the incident.
This all came after Li Qiaoming, a 24-year-old prisoner died from a severe brain injury four days after being sent to the hospital.
Local police said Li was fatally injured while playing hide-and-seek with other inmates, one of whom supposedly reacted angrily when his hiding place was uncovered by Li.
Since Li's death, the phrase "hide and seek" has spread all over China's Internet, with netizens asking for a thorough investigation.
A 15-member investigation team, including five netizens and three reporters, arrived in Jinning Friday to probe the death but failed to have a conclusion, which further disappointed the netizens.
