Former Guangdong CPPCC chairman expelled from legislature

Chen Shaoji, former chairman of the Guangdong provincial committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) has been stripped of his seat in the provincial legislature to facilitate an ongoing corruption probe against him.

The provincial people's congress of Guangdong announced this in a bulletin issued Wednesday.

The provincial legislature adopted a decision to the effect at a meeting of its standing committee on the same day.

Chen, born in 1945, had been dismissed from his post as chairman of the Guang provincial committee of CPPCC, a political advisory body, in April.
