Macao's Legislative Assembly Electoral Affairs Commission (EAC) announced on Wednesday that it will set up 28 polling stations for the upcoming direct legislature election, one of which will be set up in the Macao Prison so that even the imprisoned but qualified voters can cast their votes on election date.
The SAR's Legislative Assembly has 29 seats, 12 of which are directly elected and 10 indirectly elected while the rest will be appointed by the SAR's chief executive.
The polling stations will be located in local neighborhoods, with the aim to facilitate voters, according to the EAC.
Since only 10 candidates were competing for the 10 indirectly elected seats of the local legislature, and they will all be elected without vote, the EAC said that it will not set up any polling station for the indirect election of the Legislative Election.
Some 123 candidates have completed their registration procedures for joining the SAR's direct legislative election which was scheduled to take place on September 20.
The officially verified lists of the candidates will be announced on July 28 at the earliest.
