Six development company executives were detained and four officials were penalized Tuesday for the collapse of a Shanghai apartment building last month, local authorities said.
A nearly-completed 13-story building toppled over on June 27 in Shanghai, killing one worker and raising concerns over construction standards.
Six managers, including Zhang Zhiqin, legal representative of Meidu Real Estate Company, and Zhang Yaojie, legal representative of the Zhongxin Construction Company, were detained and would face charges relating to the accident, said Xie Liming, director of the city's work safety administration.
Another manager was released on bail and awaiting trial, Xie said, without identifying him.
The two companies and a monitoring firm had their licenses revoked.
Cai Jianzhong, secretary of the Communist Party of China Meilong Township Committee, was suspended of his post for further investigation, Xie said.
The deputy head of Minhang District Lian Zhenghua, as well as Shi Baoqi and Zhou Liang, head and deputy head of Meilong Township, were given penalties ranging from warnings to having demerit notices on their records.
Que Jingde, the second largest shareholder of the Meidu Real Estate Company, was also under investigation, he said.
Que was appointed by Cai as assistant head of Meilong Township and served as general manager of the Meilong Asset Management Company. The appointment was invalid as Cai did not report the posting to higher authorities for approval, Xie said.
