China is now seeking public opinion when drafting law on the
"Sanitation Standards of Swimming Sites", in an attempt to better
control the sanitation of commercial swimming pools.
The Ministry of Health and the General Administration of Sport
jointly issued the draft for the purpose on Thursday.
All swimming facilities must be well sanitized and the water
temperature of in-door swimming pools should not be less than 22
centigrade and that of out-door ones should not be less than 16
centigrade degrees, the draft says.
In 2006, health authorities checked 4,991 commercial swimming
pools in 15 provinces, and found that only 67.5 of them met
official standards on sanitation.
There is no official statistics about the total number of
commercial swimming pools in the country.
