Shanghai has conducted a physical check for local kids aged under
6, finding that 3.6 percent of them are too fat, while the
proportion in 1986 was only 0.42 percent. Quite a large number of
them have hypertension.
"It is very likely for an obese kid to remain fat when he/she
grows up, and it will lead to various fatal diseases like diabetes,
hypertension, cancer and gout," said Ji Chengye, the director of
the Institute of Adolescent Health.
"Today many young people and even kids are afflicted with
cardiovascular disease, especially those who are too fat," said a
doctor.
15 percent of parents and 20 percent of
grandparents think that fat children are cute. However, their wrong
concept that has caused a series of health problems to their
kids.
