The Ecuadorian medical organization is observing more than 100 people who were in contact with the child infected with the A/H1N1 virus during a trip to Miami, U.S, Public Health director of Quito Jorge Cueva said on Monday.
Among the people under observance, there are five crew members from the commercial plane where the child traveled one week ago, as well as some customs officers and airport assistants, Cueva added.
"We are observing them in their houses," Cueva said. None of them has showed A/H1N1 flu symptoms yet.
Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa has said that the boy, the only confirmed A/H1N1 case, was being treated and recovering at the hospital.
The infected patient was a 12-year-old boy from Guayaquil, Ecuador's economic center, who returned to Ecuador on May 10 from the United States in a commercial flight.
