South Korea's health authorities on Tuesday confirmed an additional case of influenza A/H1N1, bringing the total number of the infected here to 23.

A 28-year-old Korean woman who arrived here from New York via Tokyo on Sunday was detained at the airport after showing symptoms consistent with the new flu, which has spread throughout the world, the Ministry for Health, Welfare and Family Affairs said.

The woman, having high fever, suffered from coughing and complained of muscle cramps and headache, was moved to a state-designated quarantine area on Monday as a precautionary measure.

A person who was traveling with the woman had also been tested but showed no signs of having contracted the flu virus, and is currently being monitored at home.

The World Health Organization (WHO) said that there were 12,515cases of the disease in 46 countries, with 91 deaths being attributed to the virus.

All deaths have occurred in Mexico, the United States, Canada and Costa Rica, it added.
