An European health agency said on Thursday that 1,671 new A/H1N1 flu cases were reported in European countries within the last 24 hours.
Of the new cases, 637 were confirmed in Germany, 510 in Britain,197 in Greece, 64 in Sweden, 62 in Italy, 46 in Norway, 40 in Spain, 29 in Switzerland, 19 in Portugal, 15 in Slovenia, 12 in Hungary, eight in Austria, five each in Denmark and Ireland, four in Bulgaria, three each in the Czech Republic, Iceland, Slovakia and Lithuania, two each in Romania and Malta, and one each in Estonia and Poland, the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) said in its daily situation report.
The total number of confirmed cases of the A/H1N1 flu virus in the EU (European Union) and EFTA (European Free Trade Association) countries rose to 19,404, with 1,526 cases in Spain and 11,159 in Britain, 628 in France and 2,455 in Germany, the ECDC said.
The ECDC publishes a daily situation report about A/H1N1 flu cases in the EU and EFTA countries based on official information from these countries.
