A school in central China's Hunan Province reported an outbreak of A/H1N1 influenza, local authorities said Monday.
More than 20 students at the Yueyun Middle School in the Hengshan county of Hengyang city began to show symptoms of flu last Wednesday. Local health authorities confirmed two A/H1N1 cases on Friday.
By Monday, the number of confirmed A/H1N1 cases has risen to five, while 36 others in the school showed symptoms of flu, said an official with the Hunan provincial health department.
The school has more than 2,000 teachers and students, according to local sources. Classes have been suspended because of the outbreak.
This is the second A/H1N1 outbreak in schools in Hunan. Last month, 16 students in a school in Yongzhou city were found to be infected with A/H1N1.
According to the Ministry of Health, 4,415 A/H1N1 cases had been reported on the Chinese mainland by 3 p.m. Friday, of whom 3,577 had recovered.
