Hamas Cabinet Ready for Vote of Confidence
Adjust font size:

Hamas has finalized a ministerial statement of a new cabinet to be presented before the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) on Monday for vote of confidence, a Hamas PLC member said on Sunday.

Ahmed Abu Halbeya told reporters in Gaza that his group had finished the ministerial statement and it would be presented before the PLC on Monday.

On whether the new cabinet would consider the principles President Mahmoud Abbas stressed on in his letter of commission, Abu Halbeya said that Abbas had his own choice.

"President Abu Mazen (Abbas) was elected due to a certain platform and it's his right to insist on adopting his program," said Abu Halbeya.

He said that there was no serious contradiction between the political platform of Hamas and that of Abbas.

"Through the list of change and reform, Hamas depended on a certain platform, for which the Palestinian people elected it," he said.

"There's no serious contradiction between the two platforms except some points could be overcome."

Abbas has called Hamas, or the Islamic Resistance Movement to change its political charter, which calls for Israel's destruction.

Abbas has said that there's no future for Hamas if it didn't negotiate with Israel.

Abu Halbeya said that Abbas, as the Palestinian president, has the right to announce anything he wants.

"Abu Mazen has his own vision in the political issues and we in the Hamas movement have our own vision," he said.

Abu Halbeya said that to negotiate with Israel would be no easy thing.
