Senior CPC Official Meets Madagascan President

Wu Guanzheng, a high-ranking official of the Communist Party of China (CPC), met with Madagascan President Marc Ravalomanana on Thursday.

 

Wu, who is member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC's Central Committee and also secretary of the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, passed on President Hu Jintao's good wishes to Ravalomanana.

 

He said China and Madagascar have a long history of friendship. Over the 34 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties, the two countries have constantly strengthened exchanges and cooperation in such fields as politics, economy and trade, health care, culture and education, and well cooperated in international affairs.

 

The Chinese side appreciates and thanks Madagascar's firm adherence to the one-China policy and its support for China's reunification, Wu said, adding that he believes that the mutually-beneficial cooperation between the two countries will surely be consolidated and developed with efforts from both sides.

 

Wu spoke highly of Madagascar's outstanding achievements in securing national stability and promoting economic development. He hoped that Madagascar could achieve new progress in developing the economy and building the country.

 

Ravalomanana asked Wu to convey his cordial greetings to President Hu.

 

He said in recent years, bilateral relationship has been developing very well and both sides should make efforts to maintain this momentum. He described Wu's visit as an important symbol of the close bilateral relations.

 

Ravalomanana said the Madagascan government sincerely thanks the Chinese government for its assistance in Madagascar's development. He stressed that the Madagascan government firmly adheres to the one-China policy and supports China's great drive for reunification.

 

Madagascar hopes to reinforce the friendly cooperation with China in various fields, including politics, economy, society, culture and education, he added.
