Five North Korean soldiers crossed the Military Demarcation Line (MDL) between South and North Korea yesterday and returned to the north after South Korean soldiers fired warning shots, the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a news release Saturday afternoon.

According to the release, five North Korean soldiers crossed over the MDL at 11:56 AM (0256 GMT) and stayed 30 meters south of the MDL along a stream inside the demilitarized zone in Hwacheon, Gangwon Province, despite the South Korean soldiers' five warning broadcasts.

After the South Korean soldiers fired a total of 60 warning shots, the North Korean soldiers returned to the northern side at 1:15 PM (0415 GMT), the release said.
