Curfews were imposed in three cities in southern Nepal's plain
region on Monday.
In Janakpur of Dhahusa district, some 130 kilometers to capital
Kathmandu, the district administration set the curfew from 8 AM
(02:15 GMT) to 9 PM(15:15 GMT). It is reported that there are
protests which may be overnight.
In Kalaiya municipality of Bara district, some 80 kilometers
south to Kathmandu, curfew was imposed from 8 AM (02:15 GMT) to 9
PM (15:15 GMT).
Two protesters were killed in Kalaiya in the last two days in
police firing.
In Birgunj, Parsa district, some 95 kilometers south to
Kathmandu, local government clamped a curfew from 10 AM (04:15 GMT)
to 7 PM (13:15 GMT).
Birgunj witnessed violent riots and attacks against media on
Sunday.
The violent demonstrations led by Madhesi People's Rights Forum
's (MPRF, also called Madhesi Janadhikar Forum) began on Jan. 19.
The Forum claimed that one of its members was shot dead by a cadre
of the Communist Party of Nepal (formerly known as guerrilla). MPRF
later collided with policemen, which rendered six people's
death.
Madhesi people are people mainly living in Nepal's south plain
region with Indian origin.
