Adjust font size:

Top legislator Wu Bangguo met in Beijing Wednesday with visiting Spanish King Juan Carlos I.

The National People's Congress (NPC), China's top legislature, will promote exchanges with the Spanish parliament to expand China-Spain ties, said Wu.

The two countries have consolidated their political relationship, increased strategic mutual trust, supported each other on core issues and deepened cooperation in various fields since the establishment of the all-round strategic partnership in 2005, said Wu.

Wu, chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, expressed the hope that China and Spain should further cooperation in such areas like trade, environmental protection and clean energy.

Juan Carlos I spoke positively of bilateral ties, saying Spain will work on deepening cooperation and exchanges with China in various areas.

The visit by King Juan Carlos I also coincided with the on-going "Year of Spain in China" exchange program.

President Hu Jintao held talks with King Juan Carlos I on Tuesday, agreeing to further develop the strategic partnership of the two countries.

The Spanish king will attend more business and cultural activities in Beijing before heading for southwest Sichuan Province on Thursday.
