Defense Minister Cao Gangchuan and his counterpart Agagelgy Mametgeldiyev of Turkmenistan held talks in Beijing Tuesday, agreeing to promote bilateral military ties.

"The Chinese armed forces are ready to develop the friendly and cooperative ties in various fields and at multiple levels with the armed forces of Turkmenistan," said Cao, also vice chairman of China's Central Military Commission.

Hailing the smooth development of the relations between China and Turkmenistan, Cao said the two countries have enjoyed mutual trust, conducted extensive political, economic and trade and cultural cooperation, and supported each other in international affairs.

Mametgeldiyev said the armed forces of Turkmenistan are ready to join hands with the People's Liberation Army of China to promote their cooperation and friendship.

Mametgeldiyev started his five-day China tour on Tuesday morning at the invitation of Cao.
