State Councilor Meng Jianzhu, who is also the head of the Public Security Ministry, met in Beijing with visiting German Federal Minister of the Interior Wolfgang Schaeuble, agreeing to further bilateral cooperation to deter crime.
Meng highlighted the recent cooperation between China and Germany on public security matters, expressing his hope that the two nations could strengthen the exchange of intelligence and work more closely in fields such as Olympics security, anti-terrorism and campaigns against organized crime and promote bilateral law enforcement cooperation.
Meng told Schaeuble that preparation work on security for the Olympic Games was on the right track and the Chinese government and its people are capable of and confident in hosting a successful Olympic Games.
Schaeuble said that Germany highly valued its cooperative ties with China concerning law enforcement cooperation, stressing that the country was willing to step up exchanges and cooperation to render support for safeguarding safety at the Olympics and combat cross-border organized crime and Internet crime.
