China and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) are preparing a series of events to celebrate the 60th anniversary of bilateral ties and the "Year of China-DPRK Friendship".
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Jiang Yu told a regular press conference on Tuesday that both sides would take the opportunity to promote ties.
"China and the DPRK are actively preparing for the celebratory activities of the 'Year of China-DPRK Friendship,' which will cover various fields," she said.
In response to a question on Assistant Foreign Minister Hu Zhengyue's latest trip to the DPRK, Jiang confirmed Hu visited the DPRK from Jan 9 to 12 and met with DPRK Foreign Minister Pak Ui Chun and Vice Foreign Minister Kim Yong Il.
"The visit is a normal exchange between the two foreign ministries," she said.
Jiang said the two sides agreed to use the "Year of China-DPRK Friendship" to expand exchanges, enhance friendship and deepen cooperation for a stronger relationship in this year.
China and the DPRK forged diplomatic relations on Oct. 6, 1949.
