An offshore earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale jolted southern El Salvador Saturday, with no casualty or damage to property reported.
According to reports reaching here, the quake was recorded at 10:15 a.m. local time (1615 GMT), and the epicenter was in the Pacific Ocean near the province of La Libertad at a depth of 56.6 kilometers, the country's National Service for Terrestrial Studies said.
The quake was felt in San Salvador, the capital city, and several other areas in the central and southern parts of the country.
El Salvador is frequently stricken by earthquakes. Quakes of more than 5.0-magnitude have jolted the country last July and August respectively.
