Pakistani President approves judges' restoration summary
Adjust font size:

Pakistani President Asif Zardari signed the summary of reinstatement of the deposed judges on Tuesday.

The Geo TV channel reported that the summary had been sent to law ministry.

Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani with his advice sent the summary to Zardari for approval last night.

In an address to the country on Monday, Gilani announced that the judges who were sacked in November 2007 would be restored, putting an end to protest launched by lawyers and political activists.

Some 60 Supreme Court and High Courts judges were sacked when former President Pervez Musharraf imposed a state of emergency in 2007. The majority of the sacked judges took fresh oath of office after the People's Party came to power in March last year.
