Taliban attack on Afghan police claimed the lives of eight policemen and injured another in Taliban former stronghold Kandahar Monday, a police officer said.
"The Taliban insurgents attacked a police patrol in Spin Boldak town in Kandahar province this morning, killing eight police and wounding another," Sahib Jan, commander of Highway Police in Spin Boldak district, told Xinhua.
However, he did not say if Taliban insurgents have been killed or injured in the incident.
A border town which connects southern Kandahar province with Quetta of Pakistan has been the scene of Taliban militants' violent attacks over the past couple of years.
Taliban fighters who staged a violent comeback four years ago have vowed to intensify their activities mostly in the shape of suicide attacks and roadside bombings in 2009 in Afghanistan.
