Treasury chief: British economy to shrink 3.5% in 2009

British Treasury chief Alistair Darling publicized the 2009/10 budget report on Wednesday and forecast the country's economy would shrink 3.5 percent in 2009 and grow 1.25 percent in 2010.

Darling expected Britain's economy would start growing later this year and since 2011 the economic growth would reach 3.5 percent.

He also pledged 1.7 billion pounds for employment support.
