Iranian authorities have detained 8 local employees of the British embassy in Tehran, the semi-official Fars news agency reported on Sunday.
"Eight local employees of the British embassy in Tehran who had a considerable role in recent unrest were detained," Fars said, adding that the group has played an active role in creating riots.
Iran has been accusing western countries, especially Britain of provoking street protests and violence after Iran's disputed 10th presidential election.
Iran's Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki also said last week Iran may downgrade ties with Britain, following expulsion of diplomats from both sides.
