At least ten people were killed and 30 others wounded in a car bomb explosion Friday in Mosul, police source said.

Local police source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity that a car bomb was detonated near a Shiite mosque in the al-Shelikan village, northwest of Mosul in northern Iraq, when worshippers left the Shiite Mosque after their Friday prayer, killing at least ten.

Earlier in the day, roadside explosions in Baghdad killed four and wounded 18 Shiite pilgrims, who just finished their religious ritual from the holy city of Karbala in central Iraq.

In Sadar city, serious attack took place near the Shiite- dominated district in the morning, killing three people and wounding eight others when a mini-bus was hit through by a roadside bomb. Separately, one pilgrim was killed and five others wounded in Sadar City in a twin roadside bomb attack.

In another incident, five pilgrims were wounded in a roadside bomb explosion near Shaab stadium in southeastern Baghdad.

According to Iraqi officials, all the victims are Shiite pilgrims coming back from Karbala after taking part in a religious ritual.

Tens of thousands of Shiite pilgrims across the country congregated to the holy city of Karbala in recent days to celebrate the mid-Shaaban visit, which falls on Friday. Shaaban is the eighth month of the Islamic calendar and the month that precedes the holy month of Ramadan.

Sporadic attacks continue in Baghdad and other Iraqi cities and towns after U.S. combat forces pullout, despite low level of violence comparing with the previous years.
