Pakistan banned group TTP spokesman held

Spokesman of the banned group Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Maulvi Omar was held along with accomplices, local TV channel reported Tuesday.

Maulvi Omar was arrested on Monday night in Khuazai Tehsil, a village in northwest Pakistan's Mohmand tribal agency near the Afghan border, and three associates of him were also arrested and arms recovered from their possession, the private channel Express reported.

According to Pakistan's paramilitary Frontier Corps (FC) sources,Maulvi Omar was on his way to attend a key meeting in Orakzai tribal agency when he was captured.

He was appointed spokesman of TTP after its creation in 2007 and continued his responsibilities till now. Maulvi Omar belonged to tehsil Mamond of Bajaur tribal agency. He went underground after launch of army operation in Bajaur.
