Uruguayan president begins official visit to US

Uruguayan President Tabare Vazquez traveled Friday to the United States for an official visit, during which he is scheduled to meet with U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton with an "open agenda."

Vazquez will discuss with U.S. leaders South America's situation, the U.S. military presence in Colombia and bilateral cooperation programs, Uruguayan Ambassador Carlos Gianelli has said.

According to the agenda, Vazquez will inaugurate the seminary on "Reinventing the Room: Social and Educative Impact of the TICs Incorporation in Education" of the Inter American Development Bank.

During the event, Vazquez will present the Ceibal Plan, a program aiming to deliver a low cost laptop for all Uruguayan students.

Vazquez will also meet with World Bank President Robert Zoellick.
