12 die, 25 missing in Indonesian flood

As many as 12 people were killed and 25 others went missing after flood hit North Sumatra province of Indonesia on Tuesday, Health Ministry said.

Heavy rains triggered floods which submerged houses up to more than 2 meters high before down in Madina district of the province, head of crisis center of the ministry Rustam Pakaya said. "Twelve dead bodied have been found and 25 others still go missing," Pakaya told Xinhua. At least 200 families fled their home and took shelters in secure places, he said. The health authorities would soon send aids to the sites, including baby foods, medicine and medical staffs, said Pakaya.

Separately, in neighboring province of West Sumatra, rain also caused landslide, damaging scores of houses, but no casualties were reported, he said. Indonesia has been frequently hit by floods and landslides which commonly occurred after heavy rain.
