Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang on Friday rejected a U.S. Congressional panel report on China as "unworthy of rebuttal."
The annual report on China by the U.S.- China Economic and Security Review Commission to the Congress has been intended to mislead the public and impede bilateral cooperation, Qin said.
The report published Thursday in Washington accuses China of cyber espionage and plays up the "China threat" by preaching the so-called military purpose of China's space program.
Qin said "the commission always see China through distorted color spectacles, and intentionally create obstacles for the China-U.S. cooperation in extensive fields through smearing China deliberately and misleading the general public."
"The report was unworthy of rebuttal and the commission will never succeed in its attempt," Qin said.
Qin said the commission should stop issuing reports of this kind, stop interfering in China's internal affairs, "so as not to further harm its own image."
