Saeed Jalili, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, said on Monday the Islamic Republic has held talks with a visiting Russian delegation over Tehran's proposed package over its nuclear issue.
Iranian chief nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili (R) speaks to journalists next to Valentin Sobolev, acting secretary of Russia's National Security Council, during a news conference in Tehran April 28, 2008. Iran has prepared a package of "serious" proposals to help defuse a nuclear row with world powers, Jalili said on Monday after talks with Sobolev.
The proposed package, being discussed with a high-ranking Russian delegation led by Acting Secretary of the Russian Security Council Valentin Sobolev, aims at settling its nuclear standoff with the West, the official IRNA news agency reported.
Jalili added that the package bears proposals on reducing nuclear threats to the least possible degree, prevention of nuclear weapons proliferation, promotion of nuclear cooperation among different countries and other international issues.
"The package potentially can be the topic for discussion with influential countries," Saeed Jalili said at a joint press conference with Valentin Sobolev who arrived in Tehran on Sunday evening for a two-day visit.
Jalili did not conceal his point that Iran's proposed package could be the topic of talks between Iran and the major powers.
"We can also talk to them on this issue," the Iranian top nuclear negotiator said.
On April 13, Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki had announced that Tehran is preparing a package to help resolve the regional and international problems.
Head of Iranian Parliament National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, Alaeddin Boroujerdi, said earlier in Tehran that Iran would unveil a proposed package aiming at settling its nuclear standoff with the West.
However, Boroujerdi had stressed the package would maintain Iran's enrichment right.
