Voting begins in Canada general election

Voters in Canada's easternmost province of Newfoundland and Labrador started to hit the polling stations at 0830 local time (1100 GMT) Tuesday morning, to initiate the country's 40th general election.

During the day, a total of 23 million voters will vote to choose the 308 members of the House of Commons, from 1601 candidates of five federal parties.

Election results will get out late night or early Wednesday morning. National news organizations and Elections Canada will start publishing results of early electoral districts at 10:00 pm Eastern Time (0200 GMT Wednesday).
