The victory of Democrat Barack Obama in the U.S. presidential elections means "America's new image across the world," Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said on Wednesday.
Sikorski said he hoped Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk would hold a phone talk with Obama on Wednesday.
In an interview for Polish Radio Three on Wednesday, Sikorski said he was not surprised with the result of the elections.
"But this is a joyful moment since Americans feel that something very important has happened, something that opens a new chapter in the history of their country, something that make them feel proud again as Americans," Sikorski said.
Barack Obama, who won the presidential election beating his Republican rival John McCain, will be sworn in as the 44th U.S. president on Jan. 20, 2009.
