PLO Official Rules out Immediate Talks with Israel
Adjust font size:

An official of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) ruled out on Saturday any immediate negotiations with Israel.

Yasser Abed Rabbo, a PLO Executive Committee member, told Voice of Palestine radio that talks would be very difficult, especially under the declared outlines of Israeli policy, which is eyeing for a further unilateral withdrawal from the West Bank.

"Talks with Israel need intensive efforts from our side and concerned international sides, bearing in mind the dangers of Israeli unilateral solution in the future," said the PLO official.

Abed Rabbo warned against Israeli Interim Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's plan to draw Israel-West Bank border under a planned unilateral withdrawal by late 2007.

The PLO, which groups major Palestinian factions including the Fatah movement, signed the Oslo Accords with Israel in 1993.

After the Islamic Hamas movement defeated Fatah in the Palestinian legislative election in January and took office in March, Israel has said that it would not deal with a Hamas-led Palestinian government unless the group recognizes Israel, renounces violence and accepts previous peace deals.
