Strong earthquake jolts eastern Japan

A strong earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale rocked northeast of Tokyo, Japan early Thursday, according to the Hong Kong Observatory.

An intense earthquake was recorded at 00:08 am Thursday (1608GMT Wednesday), the observatory said.

The epicenter was initially determined to be near east coast of Honshu, Japan, about 160 km east-northeast of Tokyo.
