Colombian police arrested two leaders of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), the largest rebel group in the country, in operations in the northwest and east of the country Thursday, officials said.
Miguel Gaviria Fontalvo, better known as "Jader," was arrested in the northwestern city of Medellin.
Police also seized five computers and 10 million Colombian pesos (about about 5,621 U.S. dollars) during the raid.
"Jader" had been tried in absentia for crimes like kidnapping and extortion and sentenced to some 85 years in prison.
The other FARC leader arrested on the day in Arauqita, eastern Colombia, was Jhon Jairo Quintero Hernandez, alias "Mono Quintero", who commanded urban militias of the FARC X front and served as the "right-hand man" to a FARC regional chief.
