The Chairman of Pakistan's Senate Mohammadmian Soomro Monday took charge as the acting President of Pakistan after the resignation of Pervez Musharraf, local TV channel Express News reported.
According to Pakistan's constitution, if the office of President becomes vacant by reason of resignation, the Chairman of Senate shall act as President until a new one is elected.
Chairman of Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari Monday said the next Pakistani President would be from PPP.
Musharraf Monday announced he would resign as Pakistani president, one day before the ruling coalition was expected to table his "charge sheet" in National Assembly.
The PPP and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) announced on Aug. 7 that they would initiate proceedings to impeach Musharraf.
