The military wing of PalestinianPresident Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah movement on Saturday claimed responsibility for shooting an Israeli settler in the West Bank.
The settler was slightly wounded Saturday morning when his car came under fire near Alei Zahav settlement in the south of Qalqilya city in the West Bank, according to Israeli sources.
In a statement sent to the media, al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades of Fatah said the attack was in response to frequent Israeli army raids in the West Bank.
The Israeli army carries out nearly daily incursions into West Bank towns and villages to arrest Palestinians which the Israeli army accused of being involved in attacks against Israeli targets.
The brigades vowed to carry more armed attacks against "the Israeli occupation forces and the settlers," if the Israeli raids continue.
Abbas and his Fatah movement officially reject militant attacksagainst the Israelis in the West Bank and have made several agreements with Israel to disarm the military wing in exchange foramnesty.
But according to the brigades, Israel did not respect the agreements and arrested a number of activists after granting them amnesty.
