你吸烟吗？或者你曾饱受“二手烟”的危害？二手烟（second-hand smoke; secondhand smoke; passive smoking），也称为环境烟草烟（ETS, environmental tobacco smoke），既包括吸烟者吐出的主流烟雾，也包括从纸烟、雪茄或烟斗中直接冒出的侧流烟。二手烟中包含4000多种物质，其中包括40多种与癌症有关的有毒物质。在二手烟中，许多化合物在侧流烟中的释放率往往高于主流烟。如被其他非吸烟人士吸进体内，亦可能和氡气的衰变产物混合一起，对人体健康造成更大的伤害。

It is estimated that about 350 million Chinese, or nearly 27 percent of the country's total population, are consumers of one third of tobacco products around the world.

Each year about one million Chinese die from lung cancer and cardiovascular diseases that can be directly linked to tobacco use, according to the CATC.

Passive smoking, commonly known as secondhand smoke, also put the health of additional 540 million Chinese under threat, partly due to weak enforcement of smoking ban in public places.

Smoking in indoor public spaces including public working place, public transportation vehicles and some other special outdoor working spaces will all be banned from January 2011, chinanews.com.cn reported Monday.

Chinanews.com.cn cited Yang Qing, director of the department of women and children's healthcare and community hygiene under the Ministry of Health (MOH), as saying the ban is in accordance with the requirement by the World Health Organization's Framework Convention on Tobacco Control.
