       Stand Down是英式写法，意指下台。

       He was forced to stand down as the team captain.

       他被迫退下队长的职位。

       Step Down是美式用语，还有step aside意思都一样，都是“下台”的意思。

       He felt that he should step aside and let somebody else take over the post.

       他觉得应该下台，让别人继任。

       Leave Office亦解下台。

       The problem will remain when the government leaves office next year.

       政府下台后，问题依然会继续存在。

       Leave the Office意指下班。

       要注意，leave office是一个特定的词组，专指辞职。如果写成leave the office，就会解作“离开办公室”或“下班”。

       说一个人辞职，还有quit和resign可用。quit（过去式可以是quitted或quit）是放弃一份工作，也就是辞工。resign本身就是辞职。

       He quitted/quit his job after serious consideration.

       他经过详细考虑后，辞掉了工作。

       The president resigned from office after the congress passed a motion of impeachment.

       国会通过弹劾案后，总统便辞职了。
