The day after Thanksgiving in the US is known as Black Friday. That may sound negative, but its not. Rather the opposite - it's a huge day for shopping. And this year, it's more important than ever as sales will be an indication of the American economy's health.
As usual, retailers in the US are vying to attract costumers this Thanksgiving holiday.
Some businesses started preparing for Black Friday promotions as early as the summer and sales this year have started several days earlier than previously.
Major shopping streets across the country are bursting with decorations, holiday spirit and customers of course.
Some larger retailers are even staying open for 24-hour service during the holiday. Others are beefing up their online presence as an increasing number of consumers opt for internet shopping.
Analysts expect this year's Black Friday to attract 138 million consumers, signaling a good economic recovery.
There will surely be traditional favorites such as clothes and toys, but lots of gadgets this year too. No surprise here. IPads and smart phones are expected to be among the best sellers.
