For years, one of the most handsome and appealing singer and actors in Japanese pop culture has been Kimura Takuya. Now, the star is expanding his fanbase. He came to China for a press conference recently, because the pop quintet he belongs to, SMAP, has scheduled their first concert in Beijing for September.
For the first time ever in their singing career, five members of Japanese boyband SMAP will come together for a full-length concert outside their home country.
Frontman of the group, Kimura Takuya attended the press conference on Tuesday in Beijing. As he introduced, the theme of the concert will be celebrating the mutual friendship between Chinese and Japanese people. It will also be a grateful response to China's support during this year's earthquake period.
Kimura Takuya said, "It's a giant step forward for our career, plus we wanna say 'thank you' to our fans in China."
During Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao's visit to Japan this May, he met SMAP members and welcomed them to perform in China. Therefore SMAP also prepared a few numbers in Chinese, including their debut Chinese single, "The Only Flower in the World", which they performed for Premier Wen in person.
Kimura Takuya said, "We were really nervous, but Premier Wen was so kind and charismatic, and when we started chorusing, everything went smoothly then. We're glad that Premier Wen enjoyed the song, hopefully we'll meet again in Beijing."
SMAP's second single in Chinese, "The Other Side of the Night" will be released soon for the occasion. Meanwhile, the group would also dedicate the concert to the 40th anniversary of the Normalization of relations between China and Japan.
