China is, of course, globally famous for its tea culture. Tea was first introduced to China during the Tang and Song dynasties, more than 12 hundred years ago -- and it's now consumed regularly on both casual and formal occasions. Chaozhou Kongfu tea, from Guangdong Province, is just one of the many different varieties produced and taken in China.
To get the very best from a good cup of tea, everything must be right -- the water, the heating, the tea leaves, the tea sets, the brewing... and even the way of drinking.
This elegant tea ceremony is in the Chaozhou style. It's listed as a national intangible cultural heritage.
Zeng Lingyun, Secretary of Xiangqiao District, Chaozhou City, said, "This ceremony reflects Chaozhou culture. We hope people can taste this culture at the Kongfu Tea Festival. "
Tea culture is an elegant and refined tradition. In contemporary society, tea culture still plays a strong role in culturally enriching lifestyles and leisure. And of course, it continues to drive China's huge trade in tea, and play a role in cultural exchanges between nations.
Chaozhou also has other things to offer, besides tea. It's also famous for locally produced Snacks and Porcelain.
It's hoped the 3-day festival will enhance Chaozhou's cultural status, and provide a boost for the region's economy.
