Rogge: Beijing Olympiard to be landmark for world's discovery of
fascinate China
International Olympic Committee President Jacques Rogge has
hailed the Beijing Olympiard in 2008 as a landmark in the rest of
the world's discovery of China which remains a source of great
fascination.
Rogge made the remarks in a message of congratulation to the
Beijing-based Civilization Magazine on its fourth
anniversary.
Sources of the magazine told Xinhua on Thursday that Liu Qi, the
head of the Beijing Olympic Games Organizing Committee, also sent a
letter of congratulation to them.
Rogge said in his message,” Four years ago, Beijing was chosen
as the host city for the Games of XXIX Olympiard in 2008. This
historical occasion -- the first for China -- will certainly be a
landmark in the rest of the world's discovery of a country which
remains a source of great fascination."
"Since then, the Civilization Magazine, through various
special editions, has had a mission of promoting not only the 2008
Games and their messages of unity, friendship, progress, harmony,
participation and dreams, but also of dissemination the Olympic
ideals and values throughout the whole of China and the world,"
Rogge said.
"Thus, until August 2008, the Civilization Magazine
will share a vision for a promise and potential of a new Beijing
and great Olympic Games," he added.
"Beijing welcomes the athletes of the world and people of the
world are looking forward to the day. We can celebrate One World,
One Dream." Rogge said.
