Senior Party leader Li Changchun on Tuesday stressed the importance
of promoting etiquette among citizens.
"A civilized society is key to the building of a harmonious
society. More etiquette training should be conducted around the
country to create a better environment for the upcoming Olympic
Games," said Li.
He made the remarks at a conference of the Central Commission
for Guiding Ethic and Cultural Progress.
Li, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau
of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, urged all
levels of the Party and government to promote etiquette in daily
lives and voluntary service to make the society more hospitable and
civilized.
Surveys show that Beijingers have shown improvement in etiquette
over the past year as there has been a decline in the number of
people littering, spitting and flaunting traffic rules.
