The 46th meeting of the International Paralympic Committee
Governing Board opened in Beijing on Sunday, with a few important
appointments expected to be announced.
"We will make some big decisions with regard to the appointment
of chairpersons of some FPC sports, which is very important to the
future," FPC President Philip Craven told Xinhua News
Agency on the sidelines of the meeting.
Apart from listening to work reports by the organizers of the
Beijing 2008 Summer Paralympics, Vancouver 2010 Winter Paralympics
and London 2012 Summer Paralympics, the IPC governing board will
discuss sports-related issues during its three-day meeting, said
Craven.
The Beijing Paralympic Games will take place from September 6 to
17, 2008.
Founded on 22 September 1989, the IPC is an international
non-profit organization formed and run by 162 National Paralympic
Committees (NPCs) from five regions and four disability specific
international sports federations (IOSDs).
The IPC is the global governing body of the Paralympic Movement.
The IPC organizes the Summer and Winter Paralympic Games, and
serves as the International Federation for 12 sports, for which it
supervises and co-ordinates the World Championships and other
competitions.
